What Does An AndroWave Treatment Involve?

AndroWave is a non-invasive procedure.

During your treatment session a medical applicator, which delivers low-intensity energy waves, is applied to your genital area, while you lie comfortably on a medical bed.

Each session is performed by a specialist nurse in a relaxed medical room and lasts around 20 minutes, with little or no pain and discomfort.

No preparation is required.

How does Androwave work?

AndroWave works by passing energy waves, an intense but short energy pulse that travels faster than the speed of sound into the tissues. The treatment initiates a pro-inflamatory response in the tissue where it is applied. The body responds by increasing the blood circulation and metabolism in the impact area which in turn accelerates the body’s own healing processes via three mechanisms:

  • Promotes angio-genesis (development of new blood vessels) in the penis which means that the blood flow to the penis increases and hence stronger erections are achieved;

  • Rejuvenates the endothelium and penis smooth muscle – AndroWave has been shown to induce the body to repair the endothelium and smooth muscle in the penis and thus improve the function of the veno-occlusive mechanism; and

  • There is some evidence to suggest that the AndroWave therapy can also improve the functioning of the penile nerves if these have been damaged following a radical prostatectomy or because of diabetes.

How many androwave sessions do i need?

We recommend a minimum of 6 AndroWave sessions (1-3 per week). However this is an area of active research.

A number of treatment protocols have been suggested, some lasting only 4 sessions and some as long as 12 sessions and the clinical trials investigating these protocols are quite different in a number of ways (energy of the shockwaves applied, number of shockwaves, number of sessions, duration of treatment and time between sessions and the technology of the shockwave machines). This means that the optimum number of sessions is likely to be patient specific.

For patients with mild to moderate ED we recommend 6 sessions and 9-12 sessions for patients with more severe erection issues. In any case, before starting your treatment you will have a FREE consultation with your AndroWave doctor to discuss the best treatment protocol for you and during your treatment your progress will be closely monitored and adjusted as required.

what results can i expect and when will i start seeing a difference?

AndroWave rejuvenates the erection mechanism and delays or prevents the deterioration of ED

    • Men with mild to moderate ED can significantly improve their natural erections and potentially reduce their reliance on ED medication

    • Men with moderate to severe ED can enhance their response to ED medication

After the first few sessions (3-4), most men start noticing the improvement in the quality of their erections as well as better morning erections, which is an indication of the rejuvenating effect of the AndroWave treatment.

In the longer term, AndroWave can also help prevent further deterioration of your ED issues.

Are the results permanent?

The biological effects of AndroWave are permanent and have been established on a basic science level. However, erectile dysfunction depends on the lifestyle of patients and is usually a symptom of underlying health issues which lead to ED. Because ED usually gets worse in patients with comorbidities or negative lifestyle factors, this means that the improvements after the treatment might be reversed over time if the underlying conditions are not addressed.

For this reason, as part of your AndroWave treatment you also get three FREE doctor consultations so as to evaluate you and give you advise on any underlying factors that contribute to your erection issues.

Can I Repeat the Treatment on a Regular Basis?

As the treatment seems to have a physiologic effect on the erection mechanism, repeating the treatment after a certain period of time seems logical; however, the question regarding a possible saturation effect remains unanswered and requires further investigation. The results from a recent clinical trial suggested that a group of patients that initially received 12 and then another 6 sessions after six months, experienced better results then a control group that only received the initial 12 sessions.

On a practical basis, we believe that repeating the treatment once or every two years has an additive beneficial effect and can help keep the erection mechanism healthy.

Is AndroWave painful?

At times the treatment might be a bit painful, but most people can stand these few intense minutes without any issue. If there is pain during the treatment, you should notify the medical practitioner as there are some adjustments that can be made to reduce the discomfort, however, having some muted pain during the treatment also indicates that shockwaves are having a positive effect.

Normally patients experience some slight tenderness or no pain at all immediately after the treatment, but a mild and diffused pain may occur a few hours later, which can last for a day or so.
